Today we’ll learn how to configure a VSOL GPON OLT step by step. Many users find VSOL OLT configuration slightly complex at first, but once you understand the workflow, it becomes straightforward.

This guide covers:

  • OLT Access
  • Uplink Configuration
  • Management VLAN Setup
  • ONU Profile Creation
  • DBA Profile Creation
  • Service Profile Setup
  • Line Profile Setup
  • Binding Profiles to PON Ports
  • Additional Useful Commands

Let’s begin.

Step 1: Access the VSOL GPON OLT

You can access the VSOL GPON OLT in two ways:

Method 1: Access via AUX Port

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable from your PC/Laptop to the OLT AUX Port.
  2. The default AUX IP address is:
192.168.8.200
  1. Configure your PC LAN settings:
IP Address: 192.168.8.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
  1. Open the web interface:
https://192.168.8.200

Enable Telnet Access

By default, Telnet is disabled.

Navigate to:

System → Login Management

Remove Telnet from the filter list and save.

Then access via:

telnet 192.168.8.200

Method 2: Access via Console Port

  1. Connect your laptop to the OLT Console Port using a console cable.
  2. Open PuTTY.
  3. Select Serial Connection.
  4. Enter your COM port and connect.

Default Login Credentials

IP Address: 192.168.8.200
Username: admin
Password: Xpon@Olt9417#
Enable Password: Xpon@Olt9417#

Step 2: Configure Uplink

In this example, we are configuring a 4-Port VSOL GPON OLT, assigning a different VLAN for each PON port.

Create VLANs

gpon-olt# configure terminal
gpon-olt(config)# vlan 2026-2029
gpon-olt(config)# exit

Configure Uplink Port (G1)

gpon-olt(config)# interface gigabitethernet 0/1
gpon-olt(config-if-ge0/1)# switchport mode hybrid
gpon-olt(config-if-ge0/1)# switchport hybrid vlan 2026-2029 tagged

Configure Management VLAN

Create VLAN 100 for management.

gpon-olt(config)# vlan 100
gpon-olt(config)# interface vlan 100
gpon-olt(interface-vlan-100)# ip address 172.31.31.66 255.255.255.252
gpon-olt(interface-vlan-100)# exit

gpon-olt(config)# ip route 0.0.0.0/0 172.31.31.65

This allows local network access to the OLT.

Enable Telnet via CLI

By default Telnet access is blocked.

gpon-olt(config)# no login-access-list deny telnet 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0

Step 3: Create ONU Profile

Create an ONU profile for a 1-Port ONU.

gpon-olt(config)# profile onu id 2 name gpononu
gpon-olt(profile-onu:2)# port-num eth 1
gpon-olt(profile-onu:2)# commit
gpon-olt(profile-onu:2)# exit

gpon-olt(config)# onu auto-learn default-onu-profile xpon

Explanation:

  • ONU Profile ID = 2
  • Profile Name = gpononu
  • Ethernet Ports = 1

Step 4: Create DBA Profile

DBA (Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation) controls ONU bandwidth allocation.

View existing profiles:

show profile dba

Create a new profile:

gpon-olt(config)# profile dba id 2 name dbagpon
gpon-olt(profile-dba:2)# type 4 maximum 1024000
gpon-olt(profile-dba:2)# commit
gpon-olt(profile-dba:2)# exit

Delete DBA Profile:

gpon-olt(config)# no profile dba id 2

Step 5: Create Service Profile

Service Profile maps VLANs to ONU Ethernet interfaces.

View existing profiles:

show profile srv

Create Service Profile:

gpon-olt(config)# profile srv id 2 name srv_1_pon1_vlan_2026

gpon-olt(profile-srv:2)# portvlan eth 1 mode tag vlan 2026

gpon-olt(profile-srv:2)# commit
gpon-olt(profile-srv:2)# exit

Delete Service Profile:

gpon-olt(config)# no profile srv id 2

Step 6: Create Line Profile

Line Profile links DBA, GEMPORT, and VLAN services.

gpon-olt(config)# show profile line

gpon-olt(config)# profile line id 2 name line_1_pon1_vlan_2026

gpon-olt(profile-line:2)# tcont 1 name 1 dba dbagpon

gpon-olt(profile-line:2)# gemport 1 tcont 1 gemport_name 1

gpon-olt(profile-line:2)# service srv_1 gemport 1 vlan 2026

gpon-olt(profile-line:2)# service-port 1 gemport 1 uservlan 2026 vlan 2026

gpon-olt(profile-line:2)# commit
gpon-olt(profile-line:2)# exit

Step 7: Bind Profiles to PON Port

Assign Service Profile and Line Profile to the desired PON interface.

Example for PON Port 1:

gpon-olt(config)# interface gpon 0/1

gpon-olt(config-pon-0/1)# onu auto-learn

gpon-olt(config-pon-0/1)# onu auto-learn srv-profile name srv_1_pon1_vlan_2026

gpon-olt(config-pon-0/1)# onu auto-learn line-profile name line_1_pon1_vlan_2026

gpon-olt(config-pon-0/1)# exit

gpon-olt(config)# write

Your PON Port 1 is now configured and ready to provide internet using VLAN 2026.

Change Hostname

gpon-olt(config)# hostname POLLYBD

POLLYBD(config)# write

Create New User in VSOL OLT

GPON_OLT# configure terminal

GPON_OLT(config)# user add kamrul login-password E4ZPTIvGI

GPON_OLT(config)# user role kamrul admin enable-password E4ZPTIvGI

Disable Web Verification Code

Disable:

GPON_OLT(config)# web verification-code disable

Enable:

GPON_OLT(config)# web verification-code enable

Configure NTP Server

GPON_OLT(config)# ntp server enable

GPON_OLT(config)# ntp server 103.15.140.4

Conclusion

You have successfully completed the basic VSOL GPON OLT configuration process including uplink setup, VLAN configuration, ONU provisioning, bandwidth allocation, and service deployment.

This setup method can be adapted for multiple PON ports and different VLAN architectures depending on your ISP or enterprise requirements.
